My book, Three Girls and a Baby, has now been out for roughly a month. And what a month it has been! If I would have known how amazing it felt to have my book read by other people, I would have done this a heck of a lot sooner!
A little recap on my publishing experience: I started writing the book in mid-March. I did a bit of outlining but, in all honesty, this book was in my head for so long I didn’t really need to do much prep. I wrote quickly, finishing up in late April. It was another two+ months of editing, revising, beta-reading, cover design, etc. etc. I definitely wrote the whole thing a heck of a lot quicker than it took to get it polished and ready to go.
My official release date was July 11th. I did some promotion–mostly on fb, a little bit on twitter. I had some sales right from the start and they remained pretty steady for the next two weeks. It was so much fun signing into my kindle account and seeing sales (not many, but still) adding up everyday. People were buying my book! Granted, I probably knew all of them, but who cares??
I tried to get going on the sequel right away–I took it up to the cabin with me, got a lot of words down, had grand dreams of having it out by August…and then I stalled. I think I was just too caught up in the publishing of Three Girls and a Baby. It was hard to see what needed to happen next.
I will say that the last few weeks have been VERY positive in the writing front. I am very close to finishing that first draft. Then the whole thing will start again…
So what’s the next step for Three Girls and a Baby? I need to start promoting. I intentionally held off on the promotion aspect to start. If I’m going to spend a lot of time (and some money) on getting my name out there, I want people to be able to find TWO books, not just the one, when they stumble across me. The plan is to finish the draft of sequel and then start sending Three Girls and a Baby out to review blogs while the sequel is in the hands of beta-readers and proofreaders.I would love to do some sponsorships at the big ereading sites, but those are pricey and require more reviews. We’ll see. Hopefully I’ll start getting some traffic right around the time the sequel comes out.
That’s the plan anyway. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
