Happy New Year!

I hope your 2014 has gotten off to a wonderful start! I’m celebrating the new year with two big pieces of news. First, the next book in the Lovestruck series is available now for Kindle and Nook!

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000032_00035]

Lovestruck in Los Angeles follows Thomas and Lizzie as they head to sunny Hollywood. It was so much fun to catch up with them both and I really hope you like this next chapter in their story!

The second bit of news involves Ginny, Jen, and Annie–and, of course, Danny, Kiki, Josh, Matt, and Nate as well 😉 The fifth book in the Three Girls series is almost ready to go. I’m expecting to have it live on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and iTunes in the next few weeks. As soon as I have an exact date I’ll be posting it here as well as on my Facebook page and my mailing list. I’m sooo excited for you guys to see what the girls have been up to! I’ll be posting an excerpt next week and the cover art ASAP. Yay!

Do you make New Years resolutions? This year I’m going to try my very best to blog more. I tend to get very caught up in my writing (which is good because it means you get my books faster!) and end up neglecting this site. Hopefully I’ll be better in 2014! I’m also going to revisit my “100 New Books” project from last year. It was an EPIC FAIL, lol. I think I managed to read somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 new books. Maybe I’ll actually make it to 100 this year 😉 I’ll write up a post about the books I did manage to read last year–there were some really good ones in there!

Well, that’s about it from me. I hope you’re all doing well–and that it’s much warmer where you live. I’m freezing!

Christmas is coming!

How are you all enjoying December so far? It’s pretty cold here in Michigan, and getting dark sooo early. It makes me sleepy!

Which is very inconvenient because I have TONS of work to do! I’ve spent the last few months doing everything I could to make sure I have nice things ready for you for the holidays! I’m just about there, so I thought I’d take a minute to let you know what you can expect. (Speaking of sharing news, did you know I have a mailing list? You can sign up here. I ONLY send out emails when I have a new release or a big announcement. I promise not to spam you. I hate spam! Sometimes I do contests for mailing list members, too, so you can get free stuff!)

The question I am asked the most often is definitely always, “Will there be more Three Girls books?” The answer is YES! I love these characters and have lots in store for them in the future. The 5th book of the series is actually almost ready for release. It goes to the editor on Monday and I’m hoping to have it published in January. I can’t tell you the title or show you the cover yet, but I can tell you that I’ve cried more writing this book than any other I’ve written. Not because it’s super sad or anything (though it does have it’s moments) but because I really love these characters and we find out so much about them in the new book. I can’t wait to see what you think!

The second piece of news: the next Lovestruck book (with Lizzie and Thomas) should be out in just a few weeks! If you haven’t read this series yet, I hope you give it a try. Lovestruck in Los Angeles has a beautiful cover from Scarlett, I’ll post it below. Lovestruck in London is the first book and it’s available here. Here’s the new cover, isn’t it pretty??

rachelschurig_lovela_web3_2

I also have new covers for the Love Story books. I. love. them. I think they’re some of the prettiest covers I have. If you haven’t read the Love Story series, book one, In Search of a Love Story, is free right now. FYI: If you like the Three Girls you should definitely read this series. Some of our friends make little cameos;)

Okay, last bit of news: all of my books are enrolled in the Amazon Matchbook program. This means you can now purchase the paperback and get the ebook for a discounted rate. I thought this would be a nice idea for Christmas–you can buy a book for a loved one and get the ebook for yourself for $.99! This is available on all of my books.

Okay, that should be it from me. I need to get back to the writing cave to finish up the new Three Girls book. I hope you all enjoy your Wednesday evening:)

Mapping out the rest of the year

I have new book news!

So, usually when I finish a book I tell you guys about it right away. Once I’ve worked with an editor, proofreader, and formatter, I release it into the wilds of Amazon, pretty much as soon as possible.

The timeline of this book has been a little different because, well, this book is a little different.

If you’ve read any of my previous books, you know that I write romance novels with a generally upbeat feel. It’s what some people call chick lit, or romantic comedy, and it’s usually the kind of book I most love to read (and write!). But it’s not the only kind of book I like to read.

My new book is not chick lit and it’s definitely not romantic comedy. So what is it?

I’ve actually been a little nervous to tell you guys about it, because it’s a bit different from my other stuff. This book is what I would call a New Adult romance novel. Have you heard of this genre? I’ve always loved Sarah Dessen’s young adult novels (have you read her? You should read her!) because she tends to tackle emotional issues while still writing great love stories. I think New Adult books are kind of a more grown up version of that concept—emotional issues with great love stories. They focus on people in that transitional stage of life, either in college or just moving into the work force, trying to figure out jobs and school and relationship. In other words, new adults (next week I’m going to post a few reviews of NA books I love, if you’re interested in checking some out).

My new book is a little darker than my current stuff and somewhat more intense. It’s still a love story, though, and it definitely has great friendships, which I always love writing about. It’s a bit steamy, too! Because this is a new genre for me, I’m going about the release a little different and trying to line up some promotions. So in the next few weeks I’ll be releasing the title and cover. I’m hoping to have the book ready to release in October. I’m really excited about it and I’m going to do a bunch of giveaways and fun stuff to celebrate.

I hope everyone gives the new book a chance but I totally get that it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. That’s cool! And no fear, because I will ALWAYS write chick lit novels. They are my first literary love and that isn’t about to change! In fact, I am currently working on TWO new chicklit novels.

First of all, there’s going to be a new Lovestruck book! A lot of people have asked me what happens to Lizzie and Thomas next—don’t worry, I have BIG plans for them! I spent some time in California this summer to do research (Gorgeous Thomas on the beach, you guys. Picture it). I’m really excited for everyone to read it! I am working hard (like, skipping sleep hard) to get it out this winter.

Okay, here’s the BIGGEST news I have: I am working on a new Three Girls book!! I am SO.FREAKIN.EXCITED. I’ve missed writing about Ginny, Annie, and Jen (And Kiki!) and it’s been so fun to revisit them. I get questions about the girls all the time (did you know they make appearances in the Love Story books??) so I know a few of you have missed them too. The new book will come out in January, which I know is a long time to wait. I hope it will be worth it.

I think that covers all of it. To recap: new NA Romance coming in October, new Lovestruck book this winter, new Three Girls in January. And lots of giveaways, prizes, etc. to go along with them. If you’re not on my mailing list you can sign up right here to get information on new releases and sales. I do NOT send out a ton of emails, so I won’t be clogging up your inbox, promise.

Let me know in the comments if you have any questions. Enjoy your weekend (I’ll be writing!)

Book sale and other fun news!

I have so much exciting news to share!

Okay, first things first, you can now find ALL of my books on Barnes and Noble for your Nook! I’m a big Nook fan myself, it was my first e-reader, so I’m very happy readers can now find me over there. I’d like to be able to say the same about the iBookstore but I’m still missing one book on their site (An Unexpected Love Story). I hope to rectify that soon, keep your fingers crossed that Apple cooperates! You can still find the entire Three Girls series there as well as In Search of a Love Story and An (Almost) Perfect Love Story. My books are also up over on Kobo.

The second bit of news is that Three Girls and a Baby is now on sale for only $.99. Baby is the first book of the Three Girls series. If you haven’t read about Ginny, Jen, Annie, and Kiki yet, this is where you should start! The sale is being featured on Bookbub today so hop over there and get the link for the bookstore of your choice (the sale is happening on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iTunes, Kobo, and Smashwords). The sale lasts all week because I’m celebrating. More on that later…

P.S. If you’re not subscribed to Bookbub yet, you really should be! They send you a daily email with free and cheap ebook finds. They are very selective in what they promote, so you know you’re only looking at really good books. And they let you personalize the kinds of books you see, so you’ll only get the genres you like. I love them! Since I signed up I’ve found so many great cheap and free ebooks (too many, really. My book budget is out.of.control).

The most exciting news I have to share, and the reason I’m celebrating with a book sale, is because my new book comes out NEXT WEEK! I cannot wait to share it with people! It’s been a really long time coming and, for some reason, this book was really a struggle for me to finish the way I wanted it. I’m so happy that it’s FINALLY ready!

I’ll be posting about the release all week. I’ll be sharing a sneak peek at the first chapter, interviewing some of the characters, and offering several contests. Tomorrow will be a big day: I’m revealing the cover and title and explaining how you can enter to win a $20 Amazon gift card. Make sure you check back throughout the week for the latest information on the release!

I hope you guys are enjoying the spring, wherever you are. Michigan decided we’d had enough of lovely 70 degree days and turned on the cold this weekend. I am NOT happy about it. But the Red Wings won their first round series and are moving on in the Stanley Cup playoffs, so it’s not all sad around here.

See you tomorrow!

How is it April??

I’ve been a very bad blogger in 2013! Sorry that I fell off the face of the Earth, guys. Things have been nuts but I’m finally settling down. Yay!

One of the biggest reasons I’ve been MIA is because I’ve been working very hard on a new book. I’m having trouble choosing a title and I really need to get on that, because the book should be ready to publish in May. So what can I tell you about this book if I can’t give you a title? Let’s see…It’s set in London, it features a cute British boy (who just so happens to be a movie star), lots of references to Jane Austen novels, and a love story that I am particularly fond of. It’s very strange to write a book not set in Michigan but I loved writing about London. I hope you guys like it as much as I do. I promise to do better about updating in the next few weeks.

In other news, I am working to get all of my books available for nook, kobo, and iTunes. I’m also getting audiobook versions made, which I’m very excited about! It’s not a difficult process, but it is tedious, which makes it hard to do when I’m so focused on writing and editing. Again, I’ll update the site when the books are ready everywhere.

The other thing I’m working on is a prequel to the Three Girls series. I’m VERY excited about this! I think you guys know how much I love those girls, and how much I miss them when I’m not writing about them. The story I’m working on will be a novella (meaning it’s shorter than a novel) and will take place prior to Three Girls and a Baby. The best news about this prequel is that I will be offering it for free! I’m hoping to  have this out sometime in the late Spring.

I think that’s all the book news I have for now! Besides for writing I’ve been staying busy watching The Walking Dead, Dr. Who, and Community. I’m kind of obsessed with Community, actually. Joel McHale is so very dreamy and I’m more than a little bit in love with Danny Pudi and Donald Glover. Sigh. If you don’t watch this show I highly recommend giving it a shot (before NBC, in all their infinite wisdom, cancels it).

Oh, I also moved! I bought a new house with a great back yard for Lucy. It is also very near a park with walking trails and a little nature center. Lucy LOVES it! But she now gets even more annoyed when I spend all day writing. She just wants to be in the park all the time!

577476_4020653722647_20398253_n-1

Lucy says, “Hey, stop writing and take me to the park!”

I hope you are all doing well and that spring is arriving where you are. It was a whopping 35 degrees today. Woohoo :/

Talk to you soon!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! I love, love, love Christmas Eve! This is the night when we get together with my huge extended family. We eat yummy food, sing carols, exchange presents, and generally have a wonderful time. I look forward to it all year and I’m so happy my family has this tradition.

What traditions do you enjoy celebrating this time of year?

Since I’m in such a festive mood I wanted to share something cool with my awesome readers. Today only the entire Three Girls collection is available on Amazon for just $2.99. That’s three full length books for the price of one! Check out the link below. The three Girls series would make a nice gift for any fans of chick lit or romantic comedy.

Three Girls Collection

I hope you all have a lovely holiday with your friends and family. I am so blessed to have such amazing readers. Thank you so much for all of your support!

Oooh, Look at the pretties!

Lots of fun news today!

First of all: Did you know I have a mailing list? Check out the right side of the page, there’s a link there to sign up. I’m going to use the mailing list to alert readers of new releases, sales, contests, and free books. I also plan to send out some sneak peaks of what I’m working on and exclusive looks at my books as they progress. I’d love it if you’d sign up! I promise to use the list very sparingly–I know we all get plenty of email. You won’t be hearing from me on a weekly basis, or anything like that (which would be super annoying and I don’t want you guys to get sick of me!). I will only send out newsletters when I have something really good to share, promise!

Next up, the sequel to In Search of a Love Story is almost ready! This is the second in the Love Story series and will be titled An Unexpected Love Story. The book is edited and formatted (by the very talented Shelley Holloway) and I just received the GORGEOUS cover art from Scarlett Rugers. I’m so excited! I’m looking to have the book live on Amazon before the end of the week. I’ll let you know the exact day ASAP. While we wait, let’s check out the cover, which I ADORE:

Unexpected cover

Isn’t that lovely? Scarlett does such a great job. I think she really nailed the feel of the book, and I love how this one goes with Emily’s book so well.

In all the busyness of getting these books ready, I realize that I haven’t talked too much about the actual content of An Unexpected Love Story. This book focuses on Brooke Murray, Emily’s best friend from her small hometown in northern Michigan. It was fun to write about “up north” Michigan, as it’s one of my favorite places in the world to be. And Brooke was one of my favorite characters to write. Even though she’s very different from Kiki, writing her was a similar experience. Both of those girls took on a life of their own. I had little say in how their character’s developed–as soon as I started to write them they took over. That’s always a fun thing for an author to experience. I hope everyone likes Brooke as much as I do! Here’s a little synopsis about her story:

Brooke Murray is looking for an escape.

Breaking away from her small town to go away to college, she thought she’d finally made it. For someone like Brooke—smart, sexy, bold, and confident—the sky should have been the limit. But a mere five years later, she found herself right back where she started: living in her parents’ apartment in the same little town in the middle of nowhere.

Though she’d rather be just about anywhere else, Brooke is determined to help her parents save the inn they nearly bankrupted. With this heavy responsibility on her shoulders, Brooke has little time—or inclination—to put much effort into her love life. Instead, she relies on her best friends, Emily and Paul, for companionship and support, and relegates the men in her life to the role of drinking buddies and one-night stands.

Brooke is perfectly happy with this arrangement until a new guest at the inn challenges everything she once thought about love. John is gorgeous, sophisticated, and exciting, and it looks like he might be hanging around for much longer than a weekend visit.

But when hidden mistakes from the past surface, the inn’s very survival is threatened—and John himself may be involved in its imminent downfall. Suddenly forced to question everything she ever assumed about her small-town life, Brooke must now take a closer look at what is truly important to her. In doing so, she will find that true love is not nearly as complicated or scary as she thought—and may be much closer to home than she ever imagined.

In other exciting news, I’ve decided to put together a digital boxed set of the Three Girls books. Now people can download the entire series all at once, for a discounted price. Scarlett did another lovely cover for this digital collection. I’m probably a giant dork but it made me so happy to see the different Three Girls fonts on a cover once again. Check it out:

rachelschurig_threegirlsomnibus

Isn’t that cool?

Okay, I think that’s all the fun, exciting news I can handle for a day. Hope everyone is doing good! I’ll have more to share later this week!

What I’m Working On

I am so happy to see December on the calendar. I’m really, really happy. November was a bit rough. NaNoWriMo fell smack dab in the middle of me trying to get two books ready for publication (Don’t know about NaNoWriMo? You can read more about it here or in my blog post from last November). In addition to editing and lining up marketing stuff, I managed to write 64,813 brand new words during the contest. Some of those words were for a short story collection (more on that in a minute), some were for something brand new (a project I’m calling The London Book in my head), and a lot of the words were for rewrites on the last book in the Love Story series. I know, I know, NaNo is supposed to be 50k words of one single novel, but my schedule didn’t quite work out that way this year. One of the things I love about NaNo is the sense of freedom surrounding the project. I decided to exercise that freedom to do things my way this year. NaNo is so good for getting me productive, and this year that was more true than ever.

So let’s talk a little about the various projects I worked on in November. The first was a short story for this awesome collection:

holiday_wishes_final

Holiday Wishes, a short story collection to raise money for children’s charity.

Fourteen bestselling indie authors have come together to write a holiday short story collection to benefit a children’s charity this holiday season. These authors, who write in genres ranging from contemporary romance to science fiction, have joined in the holiday spirit to write all new stories for this anthology.

The collection includes contributions from the following authors: David Adams, Jason Brant, Elle Casey, Deanna Chase, Kate Danley, Dee Ernst, Ashley Mackler-Paternostro, Becca Mills, Dalya Moon, Christine Pope, Deanna Roy, Rachel Schurig, Jack Sheppard and Amber Sweetapple, with cover art donated by Claudia McKinney of Phat Puppy Artwork.

Holiday Wishes was the brainchild of Amber Sweetapple, a really great author I’ve been lucky to get to know over the last few months. Amber and her husband, Jack Sheppard, write really cool books AND they’re from Michigan! You can check out their author pages here and here. I was so stoked when Amber asked me to contribute a story. There are some seriously talented people involved in this! I decided to write something about the Three Girls and I’m so glad I did! It was so much fun revisiting Ginny, Jen, and Annie. The Christmas themed story takes place after Annie’s book. It was really fun to write and I hope you’ll check it out. All of the proceeds benefit a great children’s charity. The paperback is lovely and would make a lovely gift! You can get it here:

Kindle

Paperback

In addition to working on the short, I also spent a lot of time last month getting two new books ready to publish. Have you checked out In Search of a Love Story yet?

rachelschurig_insearchoflovestory_front_web

It is the first book of my new project, the Love Story series. I’ve been hard at work getting the two sequels finished. The next book, An Unexpected Love Story, will feature Emily Donovan’s best friend Brooke and her life running an inn in northern Michigan. The third and final book of the series, An (Almost) Perfect Love Story, will feature Ashley Phillips, who you may remember as Emily’s roommate. Like the Three Girls books, this new series celebrates love and friendship, with a dose of laughter mixed in. I really hope you’ll check them out! I should have cover art to reveal very soon! Oh, and if you look very closely, you may spot one of the Three Girls in each of the Love Story books;)

One more fun piece of news: I’ve been working on getting the Three Girls books put into a digital boxed set. I’m hoping to have this ready for Christmas!

I hope everyone is enjoying December as much as I am! It’s been rainy here in Detroit, and not very cold, which is strange. I’m hoping for some real snow by Christmas!

Happy Book Release Day!

The Truth About Ever After is here! You can check it out on Amazon for your kindle here or on Barnes and Noble for your nook here.

To celebrate the release of Kiki’s book, I have made the first book in the series, Three Girls and a Baby, free. Today is your last chance to pick up the book for free so don’t wait! Find it here on Amazon.

For those new to the series, you can also pick up the second book, Three Girls and a Wedding, for $.99 for today only over on Amazon.

Edited to add: Kindle Fire Department has a big post about my sale today over here. If you have a kindle you should definitely follow these guys! Particularly if you have a Kindle Fire, as they link to lots of cool apps.

I’m celebrating the release of my new book by getting cable. Yay!! Words cannot express how excited I am, for realz. I cancelled my cable ages ago, hoping it would make me more productive. I’ve been fine without it, of course, but I miss it! I’m hoping that now that I am writing full time, I can afford to give myself a little more free time for my guilty habits–such as Dance Moms, Sister Wives, Vampire Diaries, Mad Men, Project Runway. Oh my God, I miss TV so much!

I hope everyone has a nice weekend. I will probably be MIA (you know, watching TV and all) but I’ll stop back in soon to let you know how the new book is doing.

Happy Thursday!

One More Day!

You guys, Kiki’s book comes out TOMORROW!

Can you tell that I’m excited about this?:) I really had a great time writing this story, and Kiki is one of my favorite characters, so I cannot wait for people to read this book!

Here’s a little synopsis so you can see what it’s all about it!

Kiki Barker-Thompson has always lived a charmed life.

Blessed with wealth, a loving family, a dream career, and the perfect husband, Kiki appears to be living a modern-day fairy tale.  But when a startling loss turns Kiki’s world upside down, she realizes that her perfect fairy tale life may not be so perfect after all. Maybe living happily ever after is not all it’s cracked up to be!

For the first time in her life, Kiki has to learn to deal with true heartache—and the repercussions for her marriage are far-reaching.  To make matters worse, Kiki must work with a nightmare client in the form of a frenemy from the past—or risk endangering her new business. Their uncomfortable reunion will force Kiki to confront issues and insecurities that she left behind long ago.  Or so she thought.

With her unshakable spirit and optimism, Kiki Barker-Thompson must now learn to re-evaluate her choices—and her dreams. In doing so, she may just find that a real-life happily-ever-after could be possible after all.

I really, really hope you guys like it!

To celebrate the release, I made the first book in the series, Three Girls and a Baby, free on kindle. The promotion has been going really well so far! More than 20,000 copies of the book have been downloaded so far! Yay! If you haven’t read Three Girls and a Baby yet, now is your chance to pick it up for free here at Amazon.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far!
